weather permitting, please

Even with little sunshine, the Slough Food Courtyard is coming alive.  It’s mostly poppies, and mostly red poppies.  Although my personal favorite purple/pinks are just begining to open.

Enjoying mixed greens, oyster shooters, slices of cheese, and sauvignon blanc…

Bring your appetite and your camera to Slough Food.

Raclette Night a Success

Way back on May 08th, we had Raclette Night here at the shop.  It was a packed house, and thankfully the weather cooperated, providing a lovely evening for some to spill out into the courtyard.  I was unable to take photos since I was busy playing host.  We did have a special guest who took some wonderful photos – please visit her site here.  We do rent the Raclette Grill for FREE, when you buy the cheese here.  We will have all the cheese and meat sliced and waiting for you to pick up.

Also, the following week we had a private event here at Slough Food.  Some folks had an ‘Office Party’ on a Friday night. They rented out all of Slough Food and enjoyed…Raclette!   Sorry, no photos.

If you are interested in your own private sloughside event, please contact us -360.766.4458 or info@sloughfood.com - and let’s get the party started.

Happy Birthday!

On April 16th, 2004, Slough Food opened for business.  I remember the deli case still hadn’t arrived.  I was tracking it, and it was somewhere on I-5 between here and Portland.  I had a hugh cooler sitting on the floor with a few of the meats and cheeses, with the rest of the inventory next door in Breadfarm’s walk-in cooler.  I wish I had photos.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to all for your generous support these six years!

rare footage

The Slough Food courtyard can be an excellent spot for birdwatching.  And although the herons are usually quite skitterish, this one was intent on something.  I switched the camera to video, and caught this rare moment.

An Edison Afternoon

Steve Martin from Island Media Studio (be patient loading his site, he’s switching from big daddy because they’re so slow) produced this clip last weekend.  I think he took a shot every 12 seconds, then edited them into a time lapse short.  Looks like Edison is the place to be.  Thanks Steve!

especially tasty

Just had to take a photo of this one and post it.  Showing off what you could take to your next social event.  A regular (my sister!) called in today and needed a last minute appetizer for a party they’ve been invited to this evening - yes!  We have the platters, and a deli case full of goodies.  Easy!

The meats:  Salumi’s Smoky Paprika, ‘Winter’, and ‘House’ Salami.  The Cheeses:  Grafton Cheddar, Petit Basque, Robiola Brie, Manchego, and in the center, the 5 year Dutch Gouda.

Bluebird Grain Farms

We love Bluebird’s Emmer Farro.  It takes about an hour to cook, so start it first when you get into your meal preparation mode.  We like to add a little olive oil (or butter) and veggie stock to the water.  Just as when finished cooking lentils, you’re supposed to drain off the water, but we prefer to  save it, eating the emmer like a soup, or reserving the liquid for a later use, say for cooking rice.

Emmer cooking stovetop makes the whole house smell wonderful.  The flavor is nutty and a little mushroomy.  And it has a fabulous bouncy texture.  One of our favorite meals is emmer and broth, with a fried egg (or two) floated on top.  Then a big bowl of mixed greens.  One photo has sweet (and smoky) paprika, the other chipotle salt.  Both available at Slough Food!

winter holiday

Slough Food will be closed from Monday the 18th of January through Thursday the 28th.  Slough Food will re-open Friday the 29th of January.  Thank you.

Happy New Year – 2010!

Slough Food wishes all a Happy and Prosperous New Year!

We had bouillabaisse for New Year’s Eve Dinner.  Just wanted to show off the delicious photo.

For wine, there were several, but we did enjoy the last two in this photo:  1.5 liter bottles of Henriot Brut and the Denogent Pouilly Fuisse Cuvee Claude Denogent.

Salute!
