This event was a complete success.  Les Huitres Volantes (via Taylor Shellfish) brought in eight varietals of oysters:  Olympia, Kumamoto, Kusshi, Shigoku, Samish Bay, Totten Inlet, Eld Inlet, and North Bay.  We sold out, shucking 70 dozen!

Taking the summer off, Slough Food and Les Huitres Volantes are already planning the next tasting come late September, early October.  We are also working to make this oyster degustation a monthly-ish event through the winter and springtime.

Ontanon Slough Food Pairing

Salutations!

Please join us here in Edison, at Slough Food, to welcome Ruben Perez Cuevas (his first U.S. visit!), and to taste the fabulous wines from his family’s Rioja winery, Ontanon.  Ruben and his American liaison, the lovely (and a personal friend) Laine Boswell, will be pouring their wines this Saturday, April 16th, from 1:00 till 4:00.

Jon Rimmerman of Garagiste calls Bodegas Ontanon the pace car in Rioja, saying “I’ve been waiting for a producer like this for a long time, specifically, a Rioja entity that defines a modern sense of the category with traditional means – one that places fruit and terroir over new oak and flash but keeps the fruit intensity dialed up to 11.”

And R.John DeGloria of Slough Food says, “These wines are deliciously drinkable.”

Finally, and coincidentally, Slough Food’s birthday is April 16th, this Saturday!  Seven years young…

Thank you, and we look forward to seeing you in Edison,

John

Boundary Bay Brewery

Boundary Bay’s public relations guru, Amy Jones, came to Edison last week with her skilled cameraman, Mark, in tow.  They have started filming, and interviewing,  local businesses to help highlight the importance of shopping locally.  And, I think, to have some fun!  Here are links to their professional and enjoyable video shoot:

Skagit Valley Spring 2011

One of my favorite signs of spring is the arrival of Gothberg Farms Fresh Chevre!  Just received the first delivery yesterday, and I devoured one last night for dessert.  Delicious.

It’s back!

Those of you who recognize this famous label will need no explanation.  For the rest of you, get to Edison and find out why this sauce is so popular.  Warning:  look at the small print in the photograph.  They have discontinued making the 28 ounce can, and only make their sauce in the jumbo 6 pound 9 ounce can.  Make room in your freezer…

Winter Holiday 2011

Thank you for another great year in Edison!  Slough Food will close Monday, January 3rd, and re-open Wednesday, January 19th.  Aloha!

End of the Year

Holy Smokes!  Chanterelles, it’s been a while.  Well, we are taking our Winter Holiday this year, closing January 3rd and re-opening Wednesday, January 19th.  As we finish out 2010, we are running down our deli case.  Therefore, all cheeses will be discounted 40% on Saturday and Sunday, January 1st and 2nd.

Happy New Year!

Chanterelles have arrived!

First of the season.  They are on the small side, and they are nice and dry – good bang for buck.  We get a fresh delivery every Thursday from Kurt of Grandview Mushroom fame.  They sell quickly, call and reserve to guarantee availability.

weather permitting, please

Even with little sunshine, the Slough Food Courtyard is coming alive.  It’s mostly poppies, and mostly red poppies.  Although my personal favorite purple/pinks are just begining to open.

Enjoying mixed greens, oyster shooters, slices of cheese, and sauvignon blanc…

Bring your appetite and your camera to Slough Food.

Raclette Night a Success

Way back on May 08th, we had Raclette Night here at the shop.  It was a packed house, and thankfully the weather cooperated, providing a lovely evening for some to spill out into the courtyard.  I was unable to take photos since I was busy playing host.  We did have a special guest who took some wonderful photos – please visit her site here.  We do rent the Raclette Grill for FREE, when you buy the cheese here.  We will have all the cheese and meat sliced and waiting for you to pick up.

Also, the following week we had a private event here at Slough Food.  Some folks had an ‘Office Party’ on a Friday night. They rented out all of Slough Food and enjoyed…Raclette!   Sorry, no photos.

If you are interested in your own private sloughside event, please contact us -360.766.4458 or info@sloughfood.com - and let’s get the party started.
